Constant of proportionality and proportional relationships Flashcards
What is a proportional relationship?
A proportional relationship means that two or more quantities increase or decrease according to equivalent ratios.
We can state this proportional relationship by using the formula y = kx.
Y and x here are the quantities that are proportional, and the k is the constant of proportionality or sometimes known as the uni rate, the formula for k is K= y/x.
How do we find x and y in a proportional table?
We see which one changes according to the other one, so y changes according to x.
What should you do to find the constant proportionality?
To find the constant of proportionality divide x by y, if all of them are equal it is proportional if they are not all equal it is a not proportional relationship.
