Baldwin agreed to the US wartime debts which were opposed by Bonar Law.

Throat cancer. No one was the successor- Bonar didn’t pick one.
What raised the election?
Hung parliament.
What caused the Hung parliament?
The Conservatives wanted Protection, the Labour wanted Free Trade.
What is Protection and Free trade?
Protection - Tariffs on imported trade in agriculture. Free trade - No tariffs. Trade would flourish better when it was free from gov interference.
How did the Conservatives really lose, despite being the largest party?
They were at constant conflict with eachother. Baldwin resigned and the King chose the second largest party, Labour, to take government.
How was the Liberal’s loss bigger than others?
The split never properly healed. Not enough funding. No enthusiasm due to long period of government before. First past the post killed them.
