A feminist idea that women have too take on not only paid work outside the home but also the majority of the domestic labour and emotional support of the family.

in 2015 8.8% men and 20.1% said they had experienced abuse since the age of 16
Impact of family life on career and job prospects:
women may fall pregnant
women are seen as unreliable workers because they may take time off if their child is unwell
less committed to careers because children get in the way
Impacts of triple shift on women
Green- women consider “free time” as when they are away from work and family
Bernard- men are more satisfied than women in marriage, women suffer emotional loneliness
Oakley- women experience boredom and loneliness
Issues with statistics on domestic violence
Cheal- police wont get involved with abuse in the family as it is saw as “private”
Causes of domestic violence
Dobash- patriarchy, when a male feels challenged
Murray- only occurs in dysfunctional families
Giddens- caused by emotional intensity and family life
