What is the Holocaust?
The Holocaust was the genocide of 6 million Jewish people and other minority groups during WWII
What Anti-semitic ideology did Hitler believe?
He believed that German Jews were the reason that Germany had lost the war. Once Hitler came to power in 1933 he cast the Jews as the enemy to the pure German or Aryan race. Hitler fuelled the stab in the back myth and claimed that the Jewish people were responsible for the wall street crash in 1929 as well as the Great depression.
What are some examples of Anti-semitisim in Germany during WWII?
Small acts of aggression such as name calling, anti semitic propaganda and the boycotting of Jewish business. However over time the severity of the anti semitism grew with physical attacks happening along with the implementation of anti jewish laws in order to stop them mixing with the ‘real Germans’.
What happened on the night of November 9-10 1938?
The Nazi party ordered a wave of anti semitic violence in Germany with 100’s of synagogues being destroyed and burnt down, along with jewish businesses, homes and cemeteries all being destroyed. That night is known as Kristallnacht or the “Night of Broken Glass” in reference to all the glass that was broken or shattered that night.

How did people die in Auschwitz-Birkenau?
The Gas chambers or mass shooting were the most common methods of execution. The concentration camps were filled with diseases such as typhoid and dysentery, prisoners were often starved and many people died of malnutrition and illness.
