Wernicke (damage to Left temporal lobe) - one’s ability to comprehend spoken or written words, and to process words into thoughts, is severely impaired. Repetition is intact, and speech sounds fluent, but phrases uttered are generally meaningless.

Broca (damage to Left frontal lobe) - effects language output but not comprehension, inability to process thoughts into speech due to neurological damage; although those with motor aphasia may also be able to repeat words and phrases
