Connective tissues and imaging methods Flashcards
Lecture 4
1
Q
Describe the 5 densities of an X ray?
A
- air -everything passes thru will be very dark (black) on scan
- fat - second darkest
- fluid soft tissue
- bone - right before metal
- metal - nothing goes thru will be white
2
Q
What are advantages of conventional radiology (x ray)?
A
- quick
- cheap
- less radiation
- depicts fractures well
3
Q
What are disadvantages of conventional radiology (x ray)?
A
- multiple views required
- exposure to radiation
4
Q
Describe CT disadvantages
A
- 3D object on 2D plane causes overlapping
- cant differentiate different densities
5
Q
Describe MRI imaging?
A
- better resolution of soft tissues
- lengthy process
6
Q
What is the periosteum?
A
-a membrane of blood vessels and nerves that coat the surface of bones.
- contains osteoblasts
7
Q
List the orbital connective tissues?
A
- tenons capsule
-orbital septum
-periorbita - suspensory ligament
8
Q
Where is orbital fat found?
A
any space that is not occupied with ocular structures, connective tissue, nerves or vessels
