Q

CT Form & Function

A
  • support, protect, and join various organs
  • different types of CT perform different functions
  • CT= composed of cells and ECM
  • ECM = composed of structural fibers and ground substance
  • Most CT is of mesodermal origin
  • Some of the cells are of hematopoietic origin

Q

Mesenchyme

A
  • synonymous to primitive mesenchyme
  • loosely organized, mainly mesodermal embryonic tissue which develops into connective and skeletal tissues, including blood and lymph

Q

Epithelial-Mesenchyme Transition

A
  • refers to the epithelial cells that have lost their characteristics and acquired those associated with cells of mesodermal origin (CT)
  • cancer biology focus
