Connective Tissue Flashcards
What is the most abundant protein in the body?
collagen
Type I collagen?
fibrous tissue (skin, tendon, ligament, bone)
Type II collagen?
hyaline and elastic cartilage
Type III collagen?
meshwork in liver and hematopoietic organs (reticular)
Type IV collagen?
basement membrane
Where is loose connective tissue found?
gut lamina propria, perivascular, surrounding glands, skin (Type II)
Where is dense regular CT found?
tendons and ligaments (Type I)
Where is dense irregular CT found?
covered by epithelium, skin, organ capsules (Type II)
Where is reticular CT found?
Lymphatic/hematopoietic organs (lymph nodes, thymus, spleen), lung, liver
Where is elastic CT found?
vessels, external ear, vocal chords, trachea, lung, skin
What is the function of elastic CT?
stretching, elastic recoil, resilience
Where is mucous CT found?
comb of chicken, turkey wattles, umbilical cord, subdermal - embryo
What is the function of fibroblasts/fibrocytes?
support, healing & repair, can produce: collagen, reticular fibers, elastic fibers, GAGs, proteoglycans, glycoproteins
What is the function of macrophages?
phagocytosis, normal tissue turnover, antigen-presenting cells
Where are macrophages found?
all tissues
