What are some major device accessory types?
- Bluetooth: Includes speakers, headphones, keyboard and mouse, game controllers and even printers
- Credit Card Readers
- Memory Card Readers
- Covers: Improve durability and appearance
- Power: External batteries or wireless charging
What is the purpose of a device accessory?
Improves device functionality, performance or durability.
What is NFC and what is it used for?
- Stands for Near Field Communication
- Used for transferring data to other NFC devices
- Requires close proximity (10cm or less) to work
- Popular for transferring data for financial transactions. Can be set up on a phone or on a card.
- Can be used for photos or other data transfers

What is a proprietary cable?
A cable used solely for a specific vendor, for example the lightning cable used by Apple
What are USB B type connectors used for?
- Standard USB B used to connect to printers or other peripherals on the peripheral end (USB A used on PC side)
- USB B Mini and Micro used to connect to phones and tablets for charging and data transfer
What is Bluetooth and what is it used for?
- Known as a Personal Area Network (PAN) technology
- Connects to peripherals within a 10m radius of the connecting device
- Typically used for audio, like connecting to speakers or headphones for music or phone calls
What are wired connections used for on a PC?
Connect the PC to power, to internet or to a peripheral
What are USB A type connectors used for?
Typically used to connect to USB ports on a PC
What is a hotspot and how is it used?
- Hotspots use a device’s (typically a smartphone) WiFi card to create an ad-hoc wireless network, complete with SSID and password
- Allows other devices with the correct credentials to access the data network of the devices wireless provider.
What are USB C type connectors used for?
- Used for charging phones and tablets as well as transferring data.
- Many PCs now include a USB C port to connect to port replicators for charging and accessing peripherals

What is IR and its uses?
- Stands for Infrared
- Same technology that allows a remote to control a television
- Used to be used for data transfers between devices
- Now can be used with specific applications to control televisions or other IR devices
