What are Common conjunctions and what is their mnemonic?

Sentence type(s)
Simple, compound, complex
Simple sentences
One subject and one verb and is called an independent clause
Compound sentences
Two independent clauses or simple sentences; and two subjects and two verbs
Complex sentences
One independent clause and one or more dependent clauses
Simple sentences and conjunctions and commas
No comma between two nouns: Sam and Dick docked late.
Comma between multiple nouns: Sam, Dick, and Dodo docked early.
Compound sentences and conjunctions and commas
Two independent clauses are joined by a conjunction and a comma in front of the conjunction.
Compound sentences vs compound verbs
If compound verb, e.g.,
James worked and sweated.
No comma because simple sentence with compound verb
If: James worked, and Angel sat.
Comma because two independent clauses and it is a compound sentence.
When commas are not used
Only two nouns, verbs, or adjectives.
When commas are used
When there is a series of three or more items; or when there are two independent clauses.
