Heart rate newborn= 120-160

Newborn BP = 60-100 over 30-60
What is the ductus venousis?
Shunt in newborn from liver to divert oxygenated blood to inferior vena cava.
What is the forman ovale?
Hole in atrial septum to divert oxygenated blood from right atrium to left atrium to aorta
What is the ductus arterious?
Shunt from pulmonary artery that divers blood from pulmonary artery directly to aorta
What are some symptoms of heart failure in newborn?
Increased HR > 160 Increased respi rations > 60 with grunting Nasal flaring Accessory muscle use Decreased urine output JVD Irritable 2* decreased feeding from tired Cyanosis
What is the most common complaint from parents that lead you to suspect heart defect/ problem?
Difficulty eating
What do you teach a parent when feeding a baby with HF?
Upright position Feed after well rested Small frequent meal Be calm Short feeding time 20 min q 3 hours Increased calories formula Monitor output- weights
What heart rate would hold digoxin in newborn?
Hold digoxin if HR < 90 bpm

What causes a hypercyanotic episode?
Acute right ventricle spasm–> decreased pulmonary blood flow–> hypoxia–> metabolic acidosis
