Congenital abnormalities of ____________ are Flashcards
Esophagus (1)
Tracheoesophageal fistula- this is why neonates are fed sugar water for the first time. If milk went into the lungs via a fistula there would be a lot of inflammation.
vomiting, drooling present at birth
Stomach (1)
pyloric stenosis: will have projectile vomiting, non-bilious, often boys, often presents 3-6 wks
Duodenum (2)
duodenal stenosis
duodenal atresia
vomiting will be bilous and within a few hours of birth
the duodenum is formed by obliteration of the lumen and then recanalization
Differentiate between the vomitus of pyloric stenosis, duodenal stenosis
Pyloric stenosis
Duodenal stenosis: vomit contains bile
Pancreas (3)
Annular pancreas (failure to rotate correctly, forming ring around duodenum –> can cause obstruction)
Pancreas divisum (failure to fuse correctly causing most secretions to emptied via the accesory duct, possibly leading to chronic pancreatitis)
Accessory pancreatic tissue in the stomach/duodenum/ileum
Billiary tree
Extrahepatic biliary atresia (failure to recanalize)
Duplication of the gallbladder
