- 24 most stable men were randomly assigned to either be a guard or prisoner
- guards reffered to prisoners only by their assigned numbers.
- Prisoners had certain rights and guards had certain props. Zimbardo took the role of Prison superintendeant.

A
- guards made prisoners carry out degrading tasks.
- This study demostrated that both guards and prisoners conformed to their roles. The guards became increasingly agressive and prisoners were passive.
