  • in situations where you dont know the norms and so look for other people for how to behave
  • e.g pretending ur support a particular football team because the rest of your freindship does it is an emotion process, wanting to be liked
  • and can explain compliance most shallow form of conformity

a lim is that its hard to seperate

  • it is unclear if nsi or isi opperates in studies and real life.
  • a dissenter may reduce the power of nsi (social support) or reduce the power of isi (alternative source) therefore isi and nsi are hard to seperate
