What does internalisation mean?
We take on the majority’s view as we believe it’s correct
What is identification?
We act like a certain group as we value there opinion and be a part of the group
What is compliance?
We only change our opinion when we are around the group pressure
What is Informational Social Influence (ISI)
A cognitive process where we agree with the majority as we believe they are right and we also want to be right
Why does ISI occur?
When your not sure whats the right answer or if one person in the group is considered an expert.
What is Normative social influence?
NSI is when we go along with the majority so we are accepted
When does NSI occur?
When you dont know what how to act in a new situation so you look to others.
Why is NSI more important around friends?
You are concerned about their approval.
What strength did Lucas et al find about ISI?
There is more conformity to incorrect answers when the problems are more difficult or we think our ability is poor
What limitation of ISI did Asch find
He found that there were individual differences
What’s the limitation of both ISI NSI?
