What is the nervous system?
Specialised network of cells and primary communication system
What is the nervous systems two main functions?
- Collect process and respond to information and environment
- Co-ordinate the working of different organs and cells in the body
What is the nervous system divided in to?
Central nervous system
Peripheral nervous system
What is the CNS made up of?
Brain and spinal chord
Hat is the outer layer of the brain called?
Cerebral cortex
What is the spine responsible for?
It’s an extension of the brain and controls reflex actions it passes messages to and from the brain and connects nerves to the PNS
What does the Peripheral Nervous System do?
Transmits messages through neutrons to me from the nervous system
What is the PNS divided into?
Autonomic Nervous System
Somatic Nervous System
What does ANS do?
Controls vital functions in the body like breathing
What are 5 functions the ANS control
Breathing Heart rate Digestion Sexual arousal Stress response
What does the SNS do?
Controls muscle movement and receives information from sensory receptors
