What type of war? Christian churches define it as acceptable, it must fit a certain criteria?
Just War
The six criteria of the Just war?
Last resort, serious threat, chance of success; proportional use of weapons, decision made by legitimate authority; restore peace
A belief that it is unacceptable to take part in war or any form of violence.
Pacifism
A member of the Society of Friends, who generally are pacifists
Quakers
Where groups use violence, or the threat of violence to achieve their aims rather than the democratic process. Idea is to create fear. Often targets civilians
Terrorism
The increase in the number of states/countries which have nuclear weapons.
Nuclear proliferation
Breaking the law

To get your own back
Retribution
To change someone’s behaviour
Reformation
To put people off committing a crime
Detterrence
To stop criminals hurting anyone in society - an aim of punishment.
Protection
A form of punishment in which a prisoner is put to death for crimes committed.
