Conduction, Convection and Radiation Flashcards
Which part of the human body loses the most heat?
The human head loses the most heat.
What method of heat transfer occurs when particles with a lot of energy take the place of those with less?
Convection occurs when particles with a lot of energy take the place of those with less.
Which of these methods of heat transfer does not involve particles?
Radiation is energy transferred as waves and does not involve particles. Conduction does involve particles.
What method of heat transfer occurs mainly in solids?
Conduction occurs mainly in solids. Radiation can occur in a vacuum.
Which states of matter are fluids?
Gases are fluids for they ‘flow’. But liquids flow as well and so are also fluids.
What method of heat transfer do we see in our weather patterns?
We see convection currents (and so heat transfer by convection) in our weather patterns. Conduction does not affect our weather.
