Conduction And Convection Flashcards
Materials that allows energy to pass through them much more slowly are called?
Insulators
Materials that allow energy to flow through them quickly are called?
Conductors
How is energy transferred through solid materials?
Conduction
What happens to the particles in a solid when they are hotter?
They have more energy and so vibrate more
How can energy be conducted through a solid?
By the particles colliding with each other
Why are metals good thermal conductors?
Because the particles are close together in a regular pattern and so the vibrations are passed on easily
Why is wood a thermal insulator?
Because it transfer heat slowly and the particles are close together but not in a regular arrangement so it passes on slowly
