Describe an experiment to identify the best conductor of heat
A
A pin is attached to 3 metal rods with wax. The rods are heated and the one which conducts the best will cause the wax to melt and therefore the pin will drop.

How does the rod work on a scientific level?
A
The particles at the hot end of the rod have more energy-they vibrate more. The particles bump into their neighbours, and share their energy with them. This reoccurs on and on. Eventually the heat from the hot end reaches the cold end.
