conduction Flashcards
1
Q
where does conduction of heat mainly occur?
A
in solids
2
Q
what is the process of conduction in a solid?
A
vibration particles pass on their extra kinetic energy to neighbouring particles, this causes a rise in temperature at the other end of the solid.
3
Q
why is conduction usually faster in denser solids?
A
because the particles are closer together and so will collide more often
4
Q
why are metals the best conductors?
A
because they have free electrons, they are free to move inside the metal. as they heat up they move faster and collide with other free electrons, transferring energy. this repeats again and again etc
