Multiple sclerosis
> de-myelination of cns
- results in inflammation and degeneration
relapsing remitting = inflammatory episodes
Primary = gradual degeneration
Secondary = advance relapsing remitting where symptoms remain between episodes
Tone
State of readiness in muscle at rest or resistance to passive movement
Parkinson’s
lack of dopamine produced by basal ganglia - results in tremor and disturbance to voluntary movement + balance
cerebrovascular attack
vascular damage to brain that lasts more than 24 hours
- ischaemic = clot
- haemorrhagic = burst
Cystic Fibrosis
genetic condition effecting salt + water transport from cells
> results in mucus build up in lungs
COPD
umbrella term for inflammation/narrowing/damage of airways
> emphysema - damage to alveoli (lose shape)
> asthma - inflammation + swelling of airways which makes them highly sensitive
bronchiectasis
abnormal widening of airways (loss of cartilaginous and smooth muscle support) results in mucus build up
bronchitis
infection of bronchi
