Conditionals Flashcards
A conditional sentence usually uses an if-clause (which presents a condition) and a result clause. Example: If you don't practice your story, you will forget your part.

If a recruiter wants to know more about me, I will tell to him more about my previous work experience.
(will / can + root form)
If a recruiter wanted to know more about me, I would tell him about my previous work experience.
(would / could + root form)
If a recruiter wanted to know more about me, I would have told him about my previous work experience.
(would / could + have + p.p.)
If you dog wanted more food, what would you do?
If my dog wants more food, I will give more food for him.
If you had only 24 hours to live, what would you do?
If I had only 24 hours to live, I would stay with my family in a happy place as long as I could.
If you could choose your job, what job would you choose?
Explain for what second conditional is used to and how to use it
The second conditional is used to imagine present or future situations that are impossible or unlikely in reality.
If we had a garden, we could have a cat.
If I won a lot of money, I’d buy a big house in the country.
I wouldn’t worry if I were you.
The structure is usually: if + past simple»_space; + would + base form
Explain for what third conditional is used to and how to use it
It’s used to describe a situation that didn’t happen, and to imagine the result of this situation.
To make a sentence in the third conditional, we use, If + past perfect, would/wouldn’t have + past participle.
If she had studied, she would have passed the exam (but, really we know she didn’t study and so she didn’t pass)
If I hadn’t eaten so much, I wouldn’t have felt sick (but I did eat a lot, and so I did feel sick).
If we had taken a taxi, we wouldn’t have missed the plane
She wouldn’t have been tired if she had gone to bed earlier
She would have become a teacher if she had gone to university
He would have been on time for the interview if he had left the house at nine
