A

-to express speculation about the past e.g. that day they must have
-express the future from the perspective of the past e.g.I knew that they would open the store at seven
-express hypothetical events that may or may not occur
-indicate what would happen if it were not for some certain specific circumstance
-request something politely
-ask for advice
-reported speech e.g. Juan said that…
-express an action which is contrary to fact (if clauses) e.g. If I had time, I would go to the movies
