A
- Aberration in normal development + higher cellular proliferation of the breast epithelium–> fibrocystic changes

A
Younger females
15-35 yrs

Describe the charcteristics of lumps in females with fibroadenomas
A
- Mobile
- Rubbery mass
- Firm
- Smooth
- Painless
- may be multiple

Which investigations would you order in a pt with firboadenoma?
A
TRIPLE ASSESSMENT:
- Clinical examination
- Imaging: Mammogram/ US- dense breast, oval or round, circumscribed lump, may have coarse calcifications
- Biopsy

What histological changes might you see in a biopsy of someone with fibroadenoma?
A
- fibrosis
- stromal alterations
- mild epithelial hyperplasia
- adenosis

Q
how would you manage a patient with fibroadenomas?
A
- Reassure pt that it’s not cancer
- Analgesia- paracteamol, ibuprofen
- Could prescibe tamoxifen = SERM
- If symptomatic/ growing:
- cyst aspiration
- surgical removal
