Concrete Flashcards
What are the 4 main ingredients in CONCRETE?
Cement
Water
Fine aggregate
Coarse aggregate
What are the 4 ingredients of CEMENT
Limestone rock
Shale rock
aluminum oxide
Iron
Strength in concrete is determined by?
The amount of cement in the mix
The cement to water ratio
Volume of concrete is ordered in?
m^3
Cubic meter
What are different types of ADMIXTURES?
Air (where concrete is exposed to freeze/thaw)
Calcium Chloride “winter heat”
Mid/high range plasticizers (to make it flow better)
Set retarders (to slow down hydration process, used in summer)
Hydration control (to suspend hydration process for up to 72hrs)
Colour
What does a cylinder break test determine?
Measures how many MPA’s it takes to break the concrete
The strength of the hardened concrete
4 types of materials to make a CONCRETE FORM
Dirt
Wood
Aluminum
Steel
What is SCREEDING concrete?
Initial flattening of concrete (by hand or machine)
What is the difference between a cylinder and a volumetric concrete truck?
cylinder truck: concrete gets batched at processing facility, drive to location pre mixed based on specifications
volumetric truck: rolling facility, made to spec on site (but only for small batches)
How long is the BATCH TIME for CONCRETE
2hrs
