Conclusion and Evaluation Flashcards
Conclusions of velocity
As river travels downstream, velocity increases
Spearman’s Rank had value of 0.841 and 99.9% sure that data collected not by chance
So can accept hypothesis
Conclusions of bed load size
As river travels downstream bed load size decreases
Spearman’s Rank 0.279 but needed critical value of 0.441 to be 95% sure that data collected was not by chance
But because of human intervention I had to reject hypothesis
Evaluation of collection methods
Used hydroprop for velocity appropriate method so collected reliable data
Placed half way deep which reduced friction from surface or bed of river
Used systematic sampling to choose distances so reduces human bias
All led to more accurate and reliable collection of data
Conclusion how it could be done better
Repeat experiment on more locations on Glenderaterra Beck and on other rivers (but G.B. as close to closed system)
3orders of stream were all in upper course so no data from middle or lower course so didn’t see the full change in variables
Only collected data on one day so could collect at different times or year and would see how variables changed under different weather
Used hydroprop but could have used digital flow meter
