Conceptualisation/Classification Flashcards
Definition
The process of identifying concepts
How to classify (part of conceptualisation)
Definition - set of properties that need to be true for an object to be identified as that concept ; ‘student’ means that someone who is enrolled in a uni or etc…
Prototype - set of clearly perceivable properties most of the objects must have ; birds fly, penguin is an exception for example
Exemplar - collect a set of examples ; for similarities.
What is an entity type?
An entity type is a concept, and therefore can be classified, whose instances can be uniquely individual identified, and exists in the domain at that time.
Is tree an entity type -> needs to have instances that are unique in order to identify the tree.
-> the instances need to be individual and identifiable.

Students enroll onto modules :
enrol : Maria, COMP107 -> is a relationship type collection
There may be temporary relationship types -> temporary on a course
