Seeing the patient as physical, spiritual, and psychological whole
Holistic
The nurse either adapts to the patient’s needs, works to help the patient adapt to the environment, or adapts the environment to the needs of the patient
Adaptive
individual, a group of people, or a community that uses a service or commodity.
Consumers
From a Latin word meaning “to suffer” and the person receiving health care
Patient
A person who engages the advice or services of another, who is qualified to give the service. People who are also responsible for their own
health.
Clients
Role includes activities that assist client physically and psychologically while preserving the client’s dignity
Caregiver
Identify client problems then communicate verbally or in writing with healthcare team.
Communicator
Acts to protect the client, represents the clients needs and wishes. Shares information with other healthcare workers. Works with other healthcare team to provide continuity of care
Collaborator
Helps client learn about their health and healthcare procedures. Assesses the client’s learning needs and readiness to learn. Sets specific learning goals and enacts teaching strategies, and measures learning.
Teacher
Acts to protect the client, represent client needs and wishes. Helping them navigate a complex medical system, translating medical terms and helping patients make ethical decisions.
Client Advocate
Helps a client to recognize and cope with stressful problems, providing emotional, intellectual, and psychological support.
Counselor
