What is dysfunction?
A failure of a mental mechanism to perform a natural function.
What is a natural function?
It is the function of an organ or a biological mechanism designed by evolution.
What is psychopathology?
I problematic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that is associated with present distress or impairment in one or more areas of functioning.
What is prevalence?
Percentage of the population that exhibits a disorder during a specific time period.
What is comorbidity?
Experiencing more than one psychological disorder simultaneously
What is abnormal psychology?
A branch of psychology that studies unusual patterns of behavior, emotion and thought, which may or may not be understood as precipitating a mental disorder. Although many behaviours could be considered as abnormal, this branch of psychology generally deals with behavior in a clinical context.
What is the DSM-V and what is it used for?
The diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders is a standard diagnostic tool used by psychiatrist and psychologist in the treatment of mental disorders.
What is generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)?
A disorder characterized by excessive anxiety and worry that it’s not cold related with particular object or situation.
What is panic disorder and panic attacks?
Panic disorder is featured with repeated panic attacks and fear of future attacks. While panic attacks are characterized by intense fear and auto autonominic arousal.
What is social phobia?
A disorder characterized by an unrealistic fear of being scrutinized and criticized by others.
What is the specific phobia?
Fears of the objects or situations other than those associated with add agoraphobia and social phobia.
What are somatoform disorders
Physical symptoms that do not have an underlying medical cause.
What is hypochondriasis?
A health phobia of getting sick and dying.
What is conversion disorder?
A conversion disorder causes patients to suffer from neurological symptoms, such as numbness, blindness, paralysis, or fits without a definable organic cause.
What is somatization disorder?
A long-term chronic condition in which a person has physical symptoms that involve more than one part of the body but no physical cause can be found.
The pain and other symptoms people with this disorder feel are real and are not created or faked on purpose.
Symptoms include back pain, difficulty swallowing, nausea, and sometimes vomiting pain during intercourse and sexual activity
