culture of Europe from classical antiquity to the present. Also embraces immigrant societies of America.
Style
the interaction of all elements in an art work. Different sets of elements are common to a culture or historical period. Artists have their own style.
Examples of style
The Renaissance David’s: Donatello and Michelangelo.
Form
how something is put together.
Medium/media:
what materials and processes are used by the artist. Chalk, piano, oil paint, and photography.
Elements
what individual units make up a work of art.
Processes
How the elements and media were manipulated to create the work of art.
Principles
How the elements were arranged in the art work.
Genre
the general accepted class of similar works.
Audience/viewers
the people whom the art is meant to be appreciated by.
Context
Who, where, and by whom.
