AND = both inputs have to be on for the output to be one OR = at least one of the inputs have to be 1 for the output to be 1 NOT = inverts the input

the software that runs and maintain the system e.g. OS, defragmentation software, anti virus software

allows the user to perform tasks. e.g. word processors, spreadsheets, media players, web browsers
