What is Utility Software?
Software that’s used to maintain or configure a computer- many installed with OS but can install some manually
What is System Software? (Including the OS)
Software designed to provide a base for other software to be used on- to actually run and interact with the computer for the user
E.g.; Microsoft Windows interacts with the computer to run it and provides a base to install and execute other apps.
What is Application Software?
Programs that allow the user to complete a task, e.g., play a game
Give an example of Utility Software.
Disk Health
Compression
Encryption
Backup
Virus/Malware Scanner
System Clean-up
Defragmentation (HDD)
What causes HDD problems?
They fail due to worn parts- they deteriorate over time so the read/write head slows down and data is more liable to corruption
What does Disk Health software scan for?
HDD for problems and the information it holds
What does it do with the Disk Health scan as a result?
It fixes issues where possible
