COMPUTER ANALOGY Flashcards
1
Q
What was the cognitive revolution and when was it?
A
- Late 1960s - 1970s
- Researchers moved research towards the ideas of information processing
- The idea that memory resembles information processing by a computer
2
Q
What is the computer analogy?
A
Input —> process —> output
Encoding —> storage —> retrieval
3
Q
What does the computer analogy suggest?
A
That the human brain works like a computer:
- Information is imported through our environment (in the form of our 5 senses)
- Then it is processed (STM or working memory)
- Then it outputs information (behaviour)
- It can also store information on a hard drive (LTM)
