Designs for heat transfer printing made on computer and transferred into printing paper using automatic equipment
+ use pigments not dyes which are cheaper and give better wash and lightfastness
Can be printed on range on fabrics
Environmentally friendly as reduces physical resources
Lay planning
Before cut into pattern shapes inserted to look for flaws in automatic machine
Barcodes identify fabric and components all details kept in computer control system (+ efficient quick to spot flaws)
–computer can have errors
Computer controlled cutting
Use knifes laser beams high pressure water jets to cut through fabric
More layers of fabric can be cut at once
Tension free spread not too loose or tight
Laser cutting heat from laser stops edges from fraying
+reduces waste accurately alines fabric to cut on grain edges
Patterns on fabric layer in same places even
Allows stepped lays different sizes cut at once efficient
– doesn’t work for sheer fabrics easily distorted only good for twill and plain weave not satin
Automatic button holing seam stitching pockets
Buttonholing CNC machine remembers sequence of stitches button holes to make all even and same size cute automatically
Pockets use jig and template to automatically place and stitch pocket to garment
Seam stitching long seams ( trousers ) can be stitched automatically
