CompTIA A+: SOHO Devices Flashcards
What do you need to be mindful of when installing printer drivers in a SOHO system?
Operating system and version specific drivers
eg. windows / MAC / Linux
Operating system type
Eg. 32/64 bit
SOHO MFD Connection Types
USB Type A
USB Type B
Ethernet Printer Connectors (router) - printer gets an IP address and become available to the network
What is the WiFi connection frequency in a SOHO space?
2 Modes
- 11 wireless infrastructure
- access point enabled wireless network
supports a/b/g/n/ac connections
OR
802.11 ad-hoc mode
no access point
PEER-TO-PEER DIRECT CONNECTION
Bluetooth over 10m and need to be paired.
What is an Integrated Print Server
Dedicated server that accommodates the entire printing functions of an office space.
software is installed on the printer and it is shared to the network.
Job management / queuing / print directly to device /
What is Cloud Printing?
need to access the printer over the internet in order to print remotely
no hardwire connections needed
no need for drivers
print on demand
What is Spooling?
Involves the print server temp storing the job until it’s printed
Hard Drive Caching: somewhere for the files to sit and wait in queue.
Spooler then deleted the data from the cach after it is printed.
CAN BE CLEARED MANUALLY : how? : [My Comp] > [(C)] > [Windows Folder]> [System 32]> [Spool] > [Printers Folder] «_space;DELETE THIS
administrator vs users
Administrators have more permissions that can be assigned
ability to re-sequence the queue,
Users are restricted to what is called breakdealer
Sharing SOHO Devices
What is TCP:
Transmission Control Protocol:
TCP Port no: specifies the service / recognises the device
uses ports 135- 139 (windows device).
MAC: bonjour protocol: allows device discovery that enables location
Identify appropriate printer drivers for a given operating system
The driver is unique to the model - OS / Version specific.
Windows/ MAC / Linux have their own drivers
32/64 bit drivers also need to be correct
Printing Options:
Collate
Duplex
Orientation
Collate: the sequence of the documents being printed
Duplex: double sided printing
Orientation: How the image is laid out on the page.
Describe Integrated Print Servers:
Capabilities of the print server are built into the printer itself. Allows queueing / management/ direct printing
prior to this it was a dedicated computer that handled all print requests.
Describe pinter rights and permissions
Defining users / groups with specific abilities
users vs admin
How to clear the print spooler system on windows
My Comp - C: - Windows folder - sys32 - Spool Folder - specific printer - delete files
Which type of connections would you be most likely to find on the device end of a modern SOHO multifunction device?
Ethernet
USB type B
Which type of wireless configuration would allow all devices to access a SOHO multifunction device without pairing or using direct device-to-device communication?
802.11 Infrastructure mode
