Components of The System Unit Flashcards
Refers to central housing/enclosure of computer
System Unit
hardware component responsible for all operations performed in the computer system
Processor
measures the number of cycles your CPU executes per second, measured in GHz (gigahertz)
Clock speed
It receives instructions, and performs calculations, or operations, to satisfy those instructions. A CPU can have multiple cores
CPU Core
s a process by which a CPU divides up its physical cores into virtual cores that are treated as if they are actually physical cores by the operating system
Hyper-threading
Is hardware or software that is used to store something, usually data, temporarily in a computing environment
It is a small amount of faster, more expensive memory used to improve the performance of recently or frequently accessed data.
Cache
is a mode of operation in which two or more processors in a computer simultaneously process two or more different portions of the same program
Multi-processing
is a method in computing of running two or more processors (CPUs) to handle separate parts of an overall task. Breaking up different parts of a task among multiple processors will help reduce the amount of time to run a program.
Parallel processing
This is a unit that controls all activities that go on within the device.
Processor Control Unit
is where all calculation and logic operations happen. It is made up of arithmetic and logic units.
Arithmetic Logic Unit
is used temporally to store data that is required for processing within the CPU.
Main Memory or RAM (Random Access Memory)
is a hardware component that can be added to a computer system.
a circuit board you install into a computer to increase the capabilities of that computer
Adapter Card/Expansion Card
responsible for rendering graphics and video on a computer monitor.
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
add extra USB ports to a computer, allowing users to connect more USB devices, like external hard drives, keyboards, mice, and other peripherals.
USB Expansion Card
a physical connector found on a computer’s motherboard or system board.
Memory Expansion Slot
