What is agility?
The combination of flexibility and speed and the ability to move quickly and change direction.
What is speed?
The ability to move all parts of the body as quickly as possible.
What is flexibility?
The range of movement around a joint.
What is (maximum) strength?
The highest level of muscle strength that can be produced
What is (explosive) strength/power?
A short but sharp burst of movement.
What is (dynamic) strength/muscular endurance?
Strength that you need to support your own body strength over a period of time.
What is coordination?
The ability to link all parts of a movement into one efficient smooth movement.
What is balance?
The ability to maintain a given posture in a static and dynamic situation.
What is Cardiovascular Endurance (stamina)?
The ability of the heart and lungs to keep operating efficiently during an endurance event.
What is accuracy?
The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity
What type of sportsman would need agility and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) So they can weave in and out of players or change direction quickly.
What type of sportsman would need speed and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) So they can break away from a group of players or reach the ball before other players.
What type of sportsman would need flexibility and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) So they can reach positions other athletes cannot.
What type of sportsman would need maximum strength and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) Greater muscular strength allows an individual to potentiate earlier and to a greater extent, but also decreases the risk of injury
What type of sportsman would need explosive strength and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) So they can have a short burst of speed to reach a loose ball.
What type of sportsman would need muscular endurance and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) so they can perform a certain action whilst avoiding fatigue.
What type of sportsman would need coordination and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) You can make muscles work together in a smooth manor. This would be particularly important in sports such as tennis.
What type of sportsman would need balance and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) You will have more control over the centre of gravity and you will be able to hold gymnastic positions for longer.
What type of sportsman would need Cardio vascular endurance and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) so they can run or perform an activity for longer without experience fatigue.
What type of sportsman would need accuracy and why?
(any sport applicable as long as it is backed up) so they can be more accurate in shots.
