  • Shops and offices need to be accessible to as many people as possible and so are usually found in city centres as they tend to have great transport links
  • Improved transport links outside city centres have led to the growth of out of towns shopping centres with a mix of shops, offices and leisure activities

When developed cities become crowded and polluted those who can afford it move away to the ‘suburbs’ often at the edge of cities where land in cheaper and air is cleaner
