How does accessibility affect land use
A
- Shops and offices need to be accessible to as many people as possible and so are usually found in city centres as they tend to have great transport links
- Improved transport links outside city centres have led to the growth of out of towns shopping centres with a mix of shops, offices and leisure activities

How does availability affect land use ?
A
- City centres tend to be heavily built up
- Low availability often means high cost
- Factories and Brownfield sites may be used for housing of offices

How does cost affect land use ?
A
- Lack of availability, land in the city centre tend to be most expensive
- Some land uses e.g. high end shops and offices can afford high rent in the city centre

A
- Planning affects land use pattens
- Planners try to balance the use of land
- City authorities often decide how they want the city to develop and what land uses will be permitted in different parts of the city

What is suburbanisation
A
When developed cities become crowded and polluted those who can afford it move away to the ‘suburbs’ often at the edge of cities where land in cheaper and air is cleaner

A
When industry in cities begin to decline, often as a result of technological change

A
When older cities begin to redevelop their run down inner cities to attract people to live in city centres. It cines as a result of Re-urbanisation
