- Cognitive and psychological impairments
- deafness (esp after streptococcus pneumonia)
- Epilepsy (especially after encephalitis and abscess)
- Hemiparesis
- NEcessity for ventricular-peritoneal shunt

how to prevent complications of viral encephalitis and bacterial meningitis
A
- Prompt aggressive treatment of infection
- Dexamethasone with abx for meningitis reduces deafness
- Screening for impairments and rehab after infection
