Complex design Flashcards
Complex design
When we have more than one independent variables
Mixed design
When you use both independent group design and repeated measures
How do you calculate the amount of conditions?
By multiplying number of independent variables with the levels of each variable.
Main effects
De separate effect of every independent variable in a complex design
Interaction effect
When the effect of an independent variable is dependent on another independent varaible
3 steps to analyze a complex design
- Check for ouliers and mistakes
- Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation)
- Inferential statistics (interaction effect, main effects)
How do you find possible interaction effects?
By using the subtraction method
In graphs where lines are not parallell: they cross each other, converge or diverge
3 problems with interaction effects
-Floor and ceiling effects
-Sometimes interaction effects can be statistically significant “by accident”
-If there is enough space in the dependent variable the interaction effect would disappear.
