why do we want lingualized occlusion
A
1) creates a more favourable lever by moving the centric stops 1/2 tooth to the lingual, allowing occluding forces to move more centrally thereby contributing to stability
2) centers forces of occlusion over the ridg crest except in first molar region, where the force is more lingual
3) there is only one contac point and this creates a mortar pestle type of occlusion, provides small area of contact for efficiency and control of lateral forces
4) minimizes frictional contact between upper and lower occlusal surfaces as there is only one point of contact
5) buccalizatiin of buccal cusps allow more escape ways for food reducing potential shearing forces
