Teaching letter recognition, naming, and formation:
associate names with letters (a=apple), sing alphabet, ABC books, practice writing upper & lowercase, tactile & kinesthetic methods, choral reading
Goal of shared book experience:
increase concepts of print and oral language skills
How to do a shared book experience:
pre-read a big/predictable book with enthusiasm & discuss/reread the book with students
Goal of language experience approach (LEA):
to teach concepts of print & increase interest in/bring exposure to reading and writing
How to do LEA:
student or group will describe an experience and the teacher will dictate the writing; then the student or group will read the writing together
