Standardized Tests
an established test that has a consistent testing procedure; includes a proctor’s manual, script, and explicit grading criteria
Percentile Scores
illustrate where a student falls compared to the testing sample; 67th percentile indicates they tested about 67% of testing group
Grade-Equivalent Scores
assign a grade equivalency to the raw score; 2.3 indicates performance is similar to the 2nd grade
Stanine Scores
raw scores are converted into a scale from 1-9; 5 is average, 1 is lowest, and 9 is highest
Reliability
a test is reliable when the results yield consistent scores across administrations
Validity
a test is valid if it measures what it claims to measure
Entry-Level Assessment
indicate what students have mastered a standard or skill
Progress Monitoring Assessments
show what students are making progress towards mastery of a standard or skill
Summative Assessments
measure student achievement of a particular standard or skill
Independent Reading Level
the highest passage for which a student reads aloud with 95% accuracy and correctly answers 90% of comprehension questions
Instructional Reading Level
the highest passage for which a student reads aloud with 90% accuracy and correctly answers 60% of comprehension questions
Frustration Reading Level
when the student cannot read aloud with 90% accuracy or cannot correctly answer 60% of the comprehension questions
