Establishes a baseline and identifies students who need extra support
Screeners/ entry level
Assesses what students have learned and their abilities following instruction
Formative assessment
Measures or sums up a students progress at the end of an instructional unit
Summative assessment
Targets a specific area of reading in-depth intended to provide more in-depth information about a students reading ability Ex: Running Record
Diagnostic
Compares student knowledge or ability at the beginning and end of a period
Pre/post assessment
Gauge a students grasp of the mechanics of reading such as letter sound connections and reading printed words
Code based assessment
Measure various dimensions of a students reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and vocabulary
Meaning-based assessments
The assessments accuracy. Does the test measure the ability it claims to measure
Validity
The assessments consistency. Is the quality of test results consistent across different classes and administrations
Reliability
Strives to provide equal opportunities for students. (What is fair is not always equal)
Equity
Comparing a students performance to other students who have taken the test (State testing)
Norm-referenced tests
Measures a students ability against a fixed criteria, such as meeting a particular learning objective or level of knowledge in a subject.
Criterion referenced tests
Given to the entire class
Group reading assessments
Given to students based on individual needs
Individual reading assessments
Specific criteria that will be used to evaluate the assessment.
Rubric
easy reading for the student. the student can read 95% or more of the words without decoding.
Independent reading level
A moderate challenge for student. The student can rad 90-94% of the words without decoding. New vocab is introduced. Guided reading with teacher support to help as new words are built.
Instructional Reading Level
The material is too hard both in comprehension and vocab. The student can only read 89% or less of the words without decoding
Frustration reading level
Designed to deliver specific test items to students, and then adapt the number and difficulty of items administered according to how students respond
