Behavioural therapy
Any form of therapy derived from the behaviourist model, e.g. systematic desensitisation
Cognitive therapy
A form of psychotherapy which attempts to change a clients thought and beliefs as a way of treating maladaptive behaviour. It differs from cognitive- behavioural therapy because the latter involves some form of behavioural techniques.
Determinism
The view that an individuals behaviour is shaped or controlled by internal or external forces rather than an individuals will to do something
Environmental reductionism
The attempt to explain all behaviour in terms of stimulus- response links that have been learnt through experience
Genetic determinism
An assumption of the biological approach that behaviour is directed by innate influences from the genes we inherit
Hard determinism
The assumption that all human behaviour has a cause and such causes can be identified, described and facilitate prediction
