Comp2 EQ1 Flashcards
Which landscape was created by glacial processes?
Upland, areas of interest: the Lake District North-West England
Which landscape was created by volcanic processes?
Upland areas. E.g. Edinburgh, the Lake District and snowdonia in wales
What is the relief of the upland?
Mostly igneous and metamorphic with some Carboniferous limestone over 360 million years old.
What is the relief of the lowland landscape?
Mostly sedimentary rocks, e.g. Clay, sandstone and chalk.
What is the main slope process of the lowland landscape?
Give detail
Soil creep: when rain dislodges soil particles and the soil slowly ‘Creeps’ down the hill.
What is the landscape of the lowland area like and how was it formed?
During the last ice age water in the chalk of the lowland froze making the rock impermeable so the meltwater from the glaziers cut down in between eroding the clays creating a scarp and vale typography
Describe the structure of the scarp and vale typography.
The vale is where the water once flowed and the scarp is the embankment of more resistant rock, on the other side of the scarp there is a dip slope, a gentil slope following the tilt in the rocks
What are the slope processes in the upland aria?
There are rockfalls and landslides, a rockfall is just when lose rocks fall and a landslide is generally when rain has made rocks slippery and unstable, more likely to slide down the mountain.
