What would you do to prepare for a negotiation?
A
- Information gathering, it’s important to be fully informed and up to date to be able to use facts as a relevant argument
- Decide what your aiming for, it’s foolish to go into a negotiation without a clear goal. You need to establish what your willing to compromise on, what you’re not, and if you have a “walk away” point
- Particularly when acting on behalf of a client having a clear understanding of what authorisation you have available to you
- I would also do some research into who I was negotiating against, their background, their reputation, if any colleagues had previously dealt with them
