- group of people with common background or shared interests within society who may live in a similar area

- Sustainability
A
- development meets the needs of the present without disrupting the ability for future generations to meet their needs

- improve health, ensure preserving of environment
- strengthening sustainable technology and processes
SUSTAINABILITY OF COMMUNITY PROGRAM
- are there adequate funding, resources and personnel so the program can continue

- more then one method for community development
- variety responses encouraged
- encourages communities to define and solve own problems using different strategies and methods determined by them

A
- general movement towards fairer world
- everyone has same access to rights, to care, to information
- there are increasing inequities between people
Eg difference in Health, education, housing, adopting social justice principles to reduce inequities is an important aspect of community development

- Human rights
A
- “fundamental freedoms and protections given to all people, simply because we are human beings”
- includes: peace, shelter, education, good income, stable ecosystem, sustainable resources, social justice and equity

- Disadvantage
A
- those experiencing inequities in life
- may relate to personal factors such as age and race
- or structural inequity such as access to health care, education, housing, or geographical isolation

- Valuing local knowledge, skills, culture and resources
A
- local people know their communities and surroundings best, have most knowledge of local conditions and opportunities for change
- using their skills will reduce costs, decease planning and set up time and increase the chance of sustainability
