Communities and Ecosystems Flashcards
What does a stable community mean?
A community where the size of all the populations of species stays roughly the same at all times.
The different populations should be living in a healthy balance with the surroundings.
What is the relationship between communities and ecosystems?
An ecosystem is the interaction between a community of living organisms and their environment.
What do plants compete for?
Light, water, minerals, space, pollinators
How do plants compete, and what adaptations do they have to allow that?
They compete for water and minerals by having widespread roots.
They compete for space and light by having seeds that can be flown up high/to other places by a bird, and therefore have an advantage over others, or by being especially tall/wide.
The compete for pollinators by being colourful and smelling nice.
